How to give us access to your GoDaddy domain

Giving Nitro Sites access to your GoDaddy domain does not mean handing over your password. GoDaddy has a feature called Delegate Access: you invite us, pick the smallest access level that does the job, and remove us again whenever you like. For pointing a domain at a new website, that level is Domains Only.

The steps

1. Sign in to GoDaddy and open the Delegate Access page. It is at account.godaddy.com/access, and GoDaddy may ask you to sign in first.
2. In the People who can access my account section, select Invite to Access.
3. Enter the name and email address we sent you. They are in the email that linked you here.
4. Choose the access level Domains Only.
5. Select Invite. GoDaddy emails us the invitation, and lets you know once we accept.

That is the whole job. It takes about two minutes, and nothing about your website or email changes when you send it.

What Domains Only lets us do, and what it does not

GoDaddy splits domain permissions into two switches. A delegate with domain access gets Management Access automatically. According to GoDaddy, that covers:

• editing nameservers and hostnames (the DNS changes that point your domain at your new site);
• updating contact details, forwarding and subdomains; and
• locking or unlocking the domain and turning auto-renew on or off.

Transfer Access is a separate switch. It is what allows moving a domain to another account or registrar, deleting it or listing it for sale, and we do not need it. Leave it off.

Whatever level you choose, GoDaddy does not let a delegate:

• manage or add payment methods on your account;
• see or change your password or Support PIN;
• view your order history; or
• invite anyone else into your account.

With Domains Only we also cannot buy anything on your account. Purchasing needs a higher level that we never ask for.

Your email keeps working

Pointing a domain at a new website changes where the website lives, not where your email goes. Before we change anything we copy your existing mail settings across exactly as they are (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace or whoever runs your email), and we check mail is still arriving before and after the switch. We tell you before anything changes.

Removing us later

Open the same Delegate Access page, find us under People who can access my account and remove the access. It ends straight away.

When it does not go to plan

”The invitation expired”

GoDaddy invitations expire if they are not accepted within 48 to 72 hours. Send it again from the Delegate Access page and let us know, and we will accept it as soon as it arrives.

”I cannot find my domain in my GoDaddy account”

It may be in a different GoDaddy account (an old one, or one set up by a previous web designer), or registered somewhere else entirely. Raise a ticket with the domain name and we will help you work out where it is.

”I do not see Domains Only in the list”

Choose Products & Domains instead. It gives access to your GoDaddy products as well as your domains, but it still cannot see payment methods or make purchases.
