How to add a domain administrator in Cloudflare

{{ intro }}

Every step below has a little replica of the real Cloudflare screen, and it clicks and types itself so you can see exactly where to go before you go there. Nothing gets deleted, nothing costs anything, and you can undo the whole thing in two clicks.

{{ personalTitle }}

You'll need
The login for the Cloudflare account that holds your domain. That's all.
The role to pick
Domain Administrator — full control of your site, none of your billing.
The address to invite
{{ email }}
STEP 01

Sign in to Cloudflare

Head to dash.cloudflare.com and sign in with the email the domain was set up under. If you originally signed up with Google or Apple, use that button rather than the password box. Two-factor on? Keep your phone handy.

STEP 02

Open Manage account, then Members

Scroll to the very bottom of the left-hand sidebar. Manage account sits under all the other menus — click it and it unfolds. Members is the first item inside.

Sidebar looks shorter than this? Scroll it — Manage account is right at the bottom.
STEP 03

Click the blue Invite members button

The Members page lists everyone who can get into your account — often just you. The blue + Invite members button is top right.

These roles only grant access to the Domains selected above. To grant access to all Domains in this account, change the scope to your account.
Either choice works for us — pick whichever you're comfortable with.
STEP 06

Switch on Domain Administrator and send

Scroll down to the role list and switch on Domain Administrator — just that one. Then Create policy, and finally the blue Invite members button at the bottom of the page. Anything with Read Only in the name would leave us able to look but not fix.

Overall roles{{ roleCount }}
Domain Administrator Grants full access to zones in an account, as well as account-wide Firewall, Access, and Worker resources.
Domain Administrator Read Only Grants read-only access to zones in an account.
Zone Versioning Grants full access to Zone Versioning.

Pending is exactly right — it flips to Active when we accept.
